Krishna Chettri Memorial Education Fund

Established in 2023, the Krishna Chettri Memorial Education Fund is dedicated to supporting Budhanilkantha School students by providing need-based micro-grants. These grants help cover various fees associated with the college admissions process, specifically for students applying to higher education institutions in North America. The fund supports costs, such as college application fees, standardized test fees (SAT/TOEFL), visa fees, SEVIS fees, and other fees associated with the college application process. The fund aims to award up to $100 to 10-15 students annually by matching up to 50% of the costs associated with the application process. In other words, we cover 50% of the expenses while the awardee is expected to cover the remaining 50%. The fund plans to disburse at least $800 per year.

Late Krishna Chettri

Krishna joined Budhanilkantha School (BNKS) in 1986 from Nepalgunj.  His roll number was 503. The number 3 has special significance because roll numbers 1-10 were for students who got a full scholarship and came to Budhanilkantha from economically disadvantaged families. Krishna’s stellar academic achievements throughout his Budhanilkantha days eventually landed him in Brown University in Rhode Island on a full scholarship. After he graduated, he worked in investment banking for a number of years – he was always busy but he made time for friends, especially Budhanilkantha friends.

Krishna was at the core of SEBS North America for the past ten years and continues to inspire us to lead a life of service, excellence, humility, and accountability. Krishna was passionate about providing opportunities to the youth. The Krishna Chhetri Memorial Education Fund was established to honor him for his continuous and relentless support to SEBS North America as a member, executive committee member, past president, and advisor. Inspired by Krishna’s passion for education, the fund aspires to continue his legacy of supporting Budhanilkantha School juniors in achieving their educational dreams.
